

He was born October 14, 1940 in Prairieville, MI. Don hailed from Asheville, NC and spent the last two and a half years in Cary, NC. He moved to the Asheville area for work and said he never missed the cold winters of his youth. He adopted the bluegrass traditions of the area, and enjoyed the beauty of fall, often enjoying a Sunday drive to take in the colors.
Don was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Marie Ruth Baker. He is survived by his four children, Natalie Woods (Jeff) of San Rafael, CA, Lisa Snyder (Mark) of Cary, NC, Tom Baker (Suzanne) of Leland, NC and Kelly Beatty (David) of Raleigh, NC. Don’s six grandchildren are: Josh and Jake Snyder, Reid Beatty, Naomi, Marshall and Genevieve Baker. He is also survived by his sister, Tamie Sevigny (Gene) of Wayland, MI, brother Mike Baker of Grand Rapids, MI and many nieces and nephews.
Don spent his entire career in the laminate industry. He worked as the Quality Control Manager with Wilsonart in Fletcher, NC, retiring after twenty-one years.
Don enjoyed fishing, listening to bluegrass music, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. The family wishes to thank all those who cared for him during his time in Cary, NC and in his final months, specifically Carla and Amber.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7th at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 100 Lochmere Drive West, Cary, NC 27518 at 4:00 pm. The family will receive friends during a reception, immediately following the service. A reception for family and friends will be held in Asheville at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Resurrection Lutheran School in Cary, NC, Hospice or the ASPCA in Don’s name.
