

Lt. Col. Donald W. McLemore (U.S. Army Retired), 80, of Cary, NC died peacefully on April 19, 2014. He was born June 26, 1933, in Madisonville, KY to James and Vera McLemore. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sigrid; son, David, and his wife, Sandy of Prattville, AL; daughter, Carla Hays and her husband, Steve of Kennewick, WA; daughter, Angela McLemore of Charlotte, NC, his brother, Jim and his wife, Donna of San Jose, CA; brother-in-law, Ernst-Wilhem Wendt of Nurnberg, Germany; three granddaughters, Davina Petermann and husband Carl, Lauren Hays and Madison Long; two great granddaughters, Kate McLemore and Emma Petermann; and nieces and nephews.
During his army career, Lt. Col. McLemore served in the 1st Air Cavalry Division in the Vietnam war (1968-1969); he also had a tour of duty in Korea (1972-1973). After retirement from the army in 1979, he worked for Northern Telecom for 14 years.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, April 25, 2014, at the Brown-Wynne Chapel on Maynard Road. Burial with full military honors will be at Wake Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 pm on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home.
