Born in Quebec, Canada on April 19, 1926, Donald was the middle of 13 children and grew up in a loving and faith based family. He served in the Canadian Army during the end of World War II and then in the Navy where he learned his aviation mechanic skills.
Donald met his wife Margaret Joan Elsom in Toronto, Ontario and they were married for over 62 years. They had two children, Cheryl and Alan. The couple lived for a while in Hialeah, Florida and Cary, NC. Donald retired to a home on Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia and wintered in Florida just outside of Orlando and finally moving back to Cary to be near his family. It was while wintering in Florida that he discovered his skill and passion for wood carving and in his retirement years became an award winning wood carver.
Don is survived by his daughter Cheryl, his son Alan, his daughter in law Lisa, and his granddaughter Karen.
A service to celebrate Don’s life will be held at Cary Presbyterian Church, 614 Griffis St, Cary NC, on November 17th, 2018 at 3:00.
Don’s life was a blessing to those who were lucky enough to know him.
