Edgar “Ed” Dayton passed away peacefully at his home on Christmas Day. The week leading up to his passing was shared with many friends and family. He was loved by so many people, and will be truly missed.
He was a resident of Cary, NC for 32 years, but his heart belonged to Pittsburgh PA.
If you knew Ed, you knew he was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirate and Pittsburgh Penguins Fan. There was a sport for every season!
He found the love of his life, the late Leota Dayton and were married on December 8, 1956.
He enlisted in the US Navy and served his country for over 20 years
.
Ed and Leota raised 4 wonderful children together.
Edward Dayton of Seattle, WA ( spouse Lauryn, children Edward Dayton, Shantell Dayton and the late William Dayton) Great Grandchild Seneca Leota Dayton
The late James Dayton (children Jimmy Dayton and Kala Cooper)
Dee Ferrence of Cary, NC (spouse Russ Ferrence)
David Dayton of Fuquay Varina, NC (spouse Cindy, children Nevada Rose and DJ)
His passion for his hobbies were contagious. He enjoyed bowling, as did his wife. So needless to say his children followed suit. He had enough in the family to form a team in a bowling league!
Fishing was another family pastime. He couldn’t wait to get his bass fishing boat so he could take it out on the lake every chance he could. Again, the children followed suit, including his daughter. ( And grandchildren!!)
Traveling was something else he enjoyed. He would get on a bus, take a cruise, or get on a plane to Las Vegas. LOVED those slot machines!!! And let’s not forget about BINGO!
After the passing of his wife in 2005, he was introduced to a new family who was willing and able to help him get through one of the toughest times in his life. He found comfort and companionship with the New Horizon Fellowship. He would get to the church early on Sunday mornings to help assist the teachers in Discovery Time with the children. He was known as Mr. Ed to the kids and they all loved him, including the teachers. On Friday mornings, he volunteered to help prepare the programs for the following Sunday Services. One of the biggest things that brought him so much joy was to volunteer in the Christmas Store every year. He would come in when it opened and didn’t leave until the last gift was wrapped.
As I sit here and write my father’s obituary I think about what this Fellowship has done for him and I honestly think that their love, understanding, support, and guidance gave him the strength to go on after the loss of so many that he loved. (In such a short time).
I know that you are now with the ones who have been patiently waiting for you in Heaven.
Services to celebrate his life with Military Honors will be held at The New Horizons Fellowship on Friday January 1, 2016, at 3:00 pm.
820 East Williams Street Apex, NC 27502.
In liue of flowers , donations can be made in his honor to the New Horizons Fellowship.
