He is survived by his wife, Diane; his children, Nancy Cifani (Tony) of Greensboro, NC, Carol Gendell (Marc) of Atlanta, GA, and Jim (Kathy) of Cary, NC. He was predeceased by his parents, Lena and Robert Rogers; his two brothers, Franklin (Alice) and Calvin; and his sister, Norma Jean. Emmon carried throughout his life the strength, determination, and values instilled in him from an early age.
Emmon entered the Navy ROTC and was accepted to Northwestern University, where he met the love of his life, Diane Lewis. Their meeting began a lifelong partnership built on love, respect, and shared adventure. They were married in 1957 and soon began their life together in San Diego, CA, where Emmon proudly served as an Officer in the United States Navy.
During their time in California, they were blessed with the birth of their first child, Nancy. Shortly thereafter, Emmon transitioned from military service to begin a successful career in business finance, and the family relocated to Chicago. There, their family grew with the arrival of Carol five years later, and Jim two years after that, completing the family they so cherished. Emmon and Diane later moved to the Washington, D.C. area, where Emmon concluded his career as Director of Finance for the U.S. Navy Memorial.
Emmon adored his family and was grateful to have his grandchildren nearby. Jim and Kathy have four children—Tom, Marie, Liam, and Charlie—who were raised in Cary, NC, where Emmon and Diane settled after retirement. Emmon loved picking up the children from school and spending time with his grandchildren.
Nancy and Tony have one son, Sam, who spent much time with his loving Grandad.
Carol and Marc have one daughter, Zoe. Though separated by distance, Zoe cherished every moment with her Grandad, especially during their annual trips to Hilton Head Island.
Emmon will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, and a man of integrity whose life was marked by dedication to his faith, his family, his country, and his work. His steady presence, commitment, and love will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Glenaire Skilled Nursing Facility.
