

Floyd (Fritz) Louis Bolgren, age 89, of Raleigh, NC passed away on Monday, November 23rd, 2015. Fritz was born in Washington Township within Winneshiek County, Iowa on September 17, 1926, to Archie Bolgren and Francis Overholt. He was raised in Calmar, IA. Fritz served 23 months in the United States Navy, which included time in the Pacific.
After his time in the military, Fritz married the love of his life, Dolores Hauber, on October 3rd, 1949 at St. Benedicts Catholic Church in Decorah, IA. Fritz was a meat cutter for 23 years in Calmar, IA and then obtained a teaching degree; which allowed him to finish his career as an instructor of construction technology at Northeast Iowa Technical Institute from 1969 to 1988. Fritz continued his love for woodworking and making furniture for his family during retirement both in Iowa, then Florida and ultimately North Carolina. He also served as a volunteer fireman for the Calmar fire department and was a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Fritz is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dolores (Hauber) Bolgren, his five children: Ken (Linda) Bolgren, Altoona, WI; Dan (Charlene) Bolgren, Dubuque, IA; Jerry (Jeannie) Bolgren, Loudon, TN; Dave (Debbie) Bolgren, White Bear Lake, MN; Mary (Brent) Stubbe, Raleigh, NC; his 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Charlotte; two brothers, Elmer and Donald and two infant children; Karen and Robert.
A Mass of Resurrection for Fritz will be held on January 9, 2016 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Cary, NC at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Calmar, IA in spring of 2016. In Lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the American Legion Post 0266 Halverson Giesen, 501 W. Clark Ave, Calmar, IA 52132 in Fritz’ name.
