Frances “Jenny” Yates Summers, 73, of Cary, passed away on September 18th, 2016. She courageously fought a long battle against Parkinson’s disease, always wanting to participate in life even as it became harder and harder to do so. She was fiercely independent, loving, funny and kind. Her family meant everything to her. She spent her life trying to make them happy and feel loved.
Frances was born on October 4th, 1942, in Raleigh, NC, to the late Cleron Stokes and Frances Louise
O’Neal Yates. She proudly graduated from Broughton High School. She enjoyed working as an Administrative Assistant over many decades and with several organizations including White Memorial Presbyterian Church, North Carolina State Government and S.A.S. in Cary.
Frances is survived by her husband, Claude Summers of Cary, NC; daughter Ruth Sochacki Patterson (Rob) of Raleigh, son Robert Joseph Sochacki Jr (Karin) of Heathcote, Australia, son Walton Yates Sochacki (Mary) of Barefoot Bay, FL and her beloved grandchildren Zach, Mary J, Robby, Zoe, Emma and Summer.
One of Jenny’s greatest joys was being a member of the Lake Norman Yacht Club with Claude for the past 24 years. They both enjoyed racing sailboats and camping with many dear friends over the years. Jenny absolutely loved the beach and could spot a unique sea shell a mile away. She loved to dance and was a devoted Wolfpack fan. Jenny cherished time spent with her family and friends. She was an excellent cook and loved her routine late night snack time or “tea party” as she called it. Even as she was less able to be independent, Jenny was always up for an adventure whether that was exploring the State Fair, going out to eat or just being outside in the fresh air, wheelchair exercising or getting her nails painted. She was witty and sassy and so easy to love.
