

Gary Travis Howard, 66, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, May 31, 2012. He was born in Hampton, VA on January 15, 1946 to Andrew and Emma Howard. He graduated from ECU in 1969. After living in Charlotte for several years, he moved back to Virginia where he was a sales rep in building supplies. In 1986, he moved to Raleigh, NC, where Bob, Bill, and Sonny Corder offered him a partnership in the company Lyf-Tym Building Products. In 1994, he opened another branch in Wilmington, NC. In 2008, he bought out his partners and renamed his company Howard Building Supply.
Gary is survived by his wife of 43 years, Beth; sons, Brad and Matthew Howard and Matthew's wife, Jamie; grandsons, Jake and Grant Howard; sisters, Judy Carmines, Pat Davis and Kim Follman, all of Yorktown, VA. He is also survived by his nephews, Jeff and Robbie Carmines; great nephews, Zach, Ruxx and Jude Carmines; and a great niece, Emma Carmines.
Gary loved golfing with his former partners Bob and Bill, boating, fishing, and riding motorcycles with his sons. He was a man of exemplary character and integrity who will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, 701 Oakwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27601.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
