She was born in Zenda, Kansas to Catherine and Albert Fischer on April 15, 1931, the fourth of nine children. She grew up in Pratt, Kansas. After completing junior college, Georgetta wanted an adventure and moved to New York City to work for Pan Am. There she met her future husband, John Nicholas Paskoff. After their marriage in 1956, they moved to Pittsburgh, Pa, where their daughter, Helene was born. They later moved to Philadelphia, where unfortunately, John died at the age of 35. After the death of her husband, Georgetta returned to college to earn a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She taught in the Philadelphia public school system for 30 years. In 1997, she moved to Cary, NC to be with family. Although retired, she continued to volunteer for many organizations including the Wake County Public School System, Dorcas Ministries, and Wake Med Cary. She loved to drive and travel. She enjoyed bowling, the theatre, playing cards, bunco and dominoes. She was very active at the Cary Senior Center enjoying multiple activities and the wonderful friends she met there. She loved her grandchildren and spent many hours at their school, sports, band, and community activities.
Georgetta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her in-laws, Nicholas and Irene Paskoff; sisters, Darlene Fischer, Charlene Rinke and Geraldine Spicer; brothers-in-law, William McGoffin, Robert Spicer, Charles McKedy and Floyd Hatfield; sister-in-law, Helene McGinnis and her husband Fred McGinnis.
Survivors include her daughter, Helene Zehnder and her husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Jeff Zehnder Jr., Katelyn Koeltzow and her husband, Christopher, Kurt Zehnder; brother, Larry Fischer and his wife, Kathy; sisters, Vanita McGoffin, Lyola Hatfield, Eula McKedy, Carol Malaschuk and her husband, Richard. She is also survived by a special niece, Jane Ullrich and many other nieces and nephews whom she loved.
A memorial service will be held 2:30 PM on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Olajide and the expert nurses at Rex Hematology Oncology. They would also like to thank Transitions Hospice for the love and care they provided during her final days.
