Glenn James “Jim” Adcock, passed away peacefully on February 15,2015 after a long battle with Parkinson Disease. Jim, the son of the late Jesse Monrow

Adcock and Myrtle S. Adcock, is preceded by his brothers, Jesse Lee Adcock, Clayborn M. Adcock, and sister, Betty Sue Adcock Davis. Jim is survived by his wife and love of his life, Mary Wagoner Adcock, brother, Winton M. Adcock, numerous nieces and nephews, Christal Denise Ham, whom he considered the daughter he never had. Jim was born February 26, 1937 in Kennebec,N.C. Jim moved to Cary in 1944, and in 1949 his mother and father started a real estate and insurance agency. The Adcock Agency continues today as the second longest continuing business in Cary. Jim graduated from Cary High School in 1955. He attended Wake Forest University for two years but left school to help his mother run the business when his father passed away. Jim was very

active in the Cary community being a founding member of the Cary Chamber of Commerce when it reformed in 1962. Jim served as the executive

secretary of the Chamber. Initially, the Chamber office was located at the Adcock Agency. Jim also served as Chairman of the Cary Chamber in 1967.

In 1968 he originated and chaired the First Annual 4th of July Celebration for the Cary Chamber. Jim served the town as Chair of Public Relations

for the Cary centennial. He also served on the Cary Planning and Zoning Board, Town Center Area Planning Committee, Cultural Arts Committee,

Fire Advisory Committee and Town Insurance Committee. Jim was very active in service work for Cary. He was a Cary Jaycee, serving as the Director

for Ms.Cary Pageant for a number of years. He was a charter member of The Cary Rotary Club over 50 yrs. ago and remained active over the years.

As a community volunteer, Jim served for many years with the Cary Visual Arts program and Heart of Cary Committee. He also served on the Board of

Directors for the Wake County Chapter of American Red Cross. As an insurance professional, Jim held an AAI, Accredited Advisor of Insurance and CPCU, Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter designations. He served on numerous committees for the Independent Insurance Agents of N.C. Jim was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cary and had served as Treasurer of the Methodist Men’s Club. Jim wanted to particularly acknowledge Rosa E. Fox, whom provided amazing and loving care for him over the past five years and the staff of the Adcock Agency who were family to him. He will be most remembered for his honesty, his integrity, his sense of humor, his kindness and his love of impersonating Elvis. A Celebration of Life Service at the First United Methodist Church in Cary, February 26,2015 at 2:00 p.m. The family will hold a visitation after the service.
