Born in Elkhorn City, Kentucky to James Ernest and Betty Jayne Galloway on March 28, 1938, Tom was raised in Erwin, Tennessee. He was the third of four brothers.
Tom graduated from Unicoi County High School in 1956, and then from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1960. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, Tom relocated to Texas, where he worked for Phillips Chemical, and served in the Texas National Guard. Later, Tom moved to Franklin, Virginia, where he worked for the Union Camp Corporation.
During his time at Union Camp, Tom met and married his wife of nearly 54 years, Betty Bradshaw. In 1969, the pair moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he worked for the General Foam Plastics Corporation. He stayed with the company for the remaining 30 years of his career. In 2013, they moved to Cary, North Carolina to be near their two children and four grandchildren, who were the joy of his life.
Along with being a dedicated husband and father, Tom was an avid UT alumnus and athletics fan. He earned distinction with the school as a donor of more than 60 consecutive years. On the day Tom passed, the Vols ascended to become the #1 football team in the nation – an achievement he would have celebrated.
Tom was predeceased by his parents and two brothers Warren E. Galloway (Olivie) and Larry K. Galloway. He is survived by his devoted wife Betty, son Tad (Ashley) Galloway, daughter Beth (Scott) Wirgau, grandchildren Kate, Will, Connor, and Lena, brother Frank E. (Peggy) Galloway, sister-in-law Mary Galloway, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A private memorial will be held in his honor at a time to be determined.
The family would like to thank Tom’s many doctors and caregivers for their support making his transition as peaceful as possible.
