

James was born on July 29, 1941, in Little Falls, NY to the late Dr. Robert C. and Vivian Ashley.
He attended Little Falls High School and graduated in1958. Afterwards, he attended the University of Miami, and proudly served as a Captain in the United States Army. He went on to serve in the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 18 years. He was a member of the American Society of Training and Development Gold Coast Chapter, American Society of Quality Control, the Institute of Management Consultants Greater Miami Chapter, and the National Speakers Association.
James was known for his love of theater and his productions included a USO tour and extended past college into Community Theater. He was a published author including co-authoring The Handbook of Buying and Purchasing Management and solely wrote International Purchasing for Prentice Hall. His love of cooking later led him to produce a series of cooking charts for Bar Charts.
James is survived by his beloved his wife Jane, daughter Kimberly Ashley, son Chris Ashley both of Cocoa, FL, sister Genevieve (husband Lucius) Jeffers of Little Falls, NY, grandson Christian, granddaughters Skye and Alexys, a great granddaughter and numerous nieces , nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A memorial service will be held on October 6th, 2015 at 12:30 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. Visitation will follow the service.
