Jane Gray Godbold, 85, of Cary, passed away peacefully on September 1st, 2016, at the Laurels of Forest Glenn nursing home in Garner. She is survived by brother Turner Gray of Raleigh; son Larry (Janet), and daughter Susan Williams (Phil). She is also survived by six grandchildren: Betsy Ray (Mike), Katie Allen (Dave), Lee Godbold (Alston), Vance Williams (Meredith), Blair Williams, and Chris Williams; as well as two great greatgrandchildren, Olivia Ray and Avery Jayne Allen; and a third great granddaughter expected in December by Vance and Meredith Williams. She was preceded in death by husband of 58 years, Robert V. “Bob” Godbold.
Jane was born in Norfolk, Virginia, to Turner P. and Inez C. Gray, but grew up in Raleigh, NC. She and Bob met while working for the NC Department of Revenue. They married and moved to Cary where they lived for the rest of their lives. While she worked at various jobs during her lifetime, her family was top priority. She spent countless hours serving as grademother, cub scout den mother, team mother, and of course taxi service for her kids. She kept her grandchildren full time for as long as she was able. She accompanied Bob on many trips with the Cary Town Council, and supported him through several elections. Jane will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caring staff at The Laurels of Forest Glenn for their support and care over the past six years.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 6th, 2016, from 6-8 p.m., at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 7th, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 117 S. Academy Street, Cary. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Cary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
