Jerome Robert Bevenour 82, of Cary, North Carolina passed away peacefully at home on November 18, 2024. A man of profound integrity, kindness, and devotion, he leaves behind a legacy of love, leadership, and countless cherished memories.
Born on July 16, 1942, in New Oxford Pennsylvania. Jerry devoted his early years to serving his country with honor. From 1962 to 1966, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the early days of the Vietnam War, where he honed the telecommunication skills that would shape his remarkable career.
Following his military service, Jerry began a 40-year tenure with AT&T, rising through the ranks to become a respected leader in the telecommunications industry. His expertise in satellite technology made him a trusted partner for federal defense agencies for over 30 years, contributing to critical national security initiatives. The culmination of his professional career was the four years that he had the honor of serving as a member of a specific civil communications committee within NATO. He was the trusted industry expert who partnered with the State Department representative, meeting with the other NATO country representatives in headquarters in Brussels, Belgium to pursue their mission.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jerry was defined by the depth of his love for his wife and family. A devoted husband, he was the love of his wife Vickie’s life. Their partnership, filled with laughter and shared adventures, was an inspiration to all who knew them. He was a proud father to John Robert Bevenour and his greatest joy came from the time he spent with his beloved grandchildren, whose lives he enriched with his wisdom and warmth.
Jerry was also a cherished uncle, serving as a role model for his nieces and nephews. His unwavering values of respect, responsibility, and dedication inspired them to strive for excellence and live with purpose. Many of his nieces and nephews found guidance in the question, “What would Uncle Jerry do?”—a reflection of the profound influence he had on their lives.
In retirement, Jerry discovered a passion for golf, becoming a fixture at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, North Carolina. His wife often teased him about playing golf “eight days a week,” and his friends knew him as an icon on the course—a man who brought camaraderie, skill, and humor to every round.
Friends and family describe Jerry as a man of pride, dignity, and unwavering kindness—a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He carried himself with quiet strength and inspired admiration and respect in equal measure.
