Jerome B. "Jerry" Mersch passed away peacefully at home on February 14th, 2025, surrounded by his family. Fittingly, this was Valentine's Day setting up a reunion with his loving wife. Jerry was born on October 22nd, 1935, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late George and Louise Mersch. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Claire Steinmetz Mersch, and his brother Donald Mersch.
He is survived by his family: His brother William Mersch (Sandy), sister-in-law Patricia Mersch his sons Steven Mersch (Marion), Robert Mersch (Angela), William Mersch (Ines), Michael G. Mersch (Theresa), his daughter Andrea Mersch King (Stacey), his grandchildren Jeremy Mersch (Jenna), Michael P. Mersch (Allie), Elliot Mersch, Chris Mersch, Matt Mersch, Alex Mersch (Mary), Patrick Mersch, Nick Mersch, Bailey King, Ellison King, Megan Mersch, Molly Mersch, and his great-grandchildren Otto Mersch, and James Mersch.
Jerry honorably served on active duty in the Army of the United States from 1954 to 1957. He attended Xavier University and received a degree in Physics. He retired from The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) after 38 years of service. He was a member of Knights of Columbus.
Jerry had a passion for music serving in the Army band, as a drummer. You could often find him at special events sitting in for the drummer that would give up his seat for a few tunes. He shared a passion for golf with Claire and also volunteered during several Prestonwood professional golfing tournaments. He loved all things Cincinnati Reds baseball and Notre Dame football. He was very mechanical and could fix most anything he could take apart. At a young age he was fascinated with trains and model railroading, a passion that he enjoyed through his senior years.
The family would like to thank Elizabeth Etchi for her loving service as Dad's caregiver over the last 10+ years. She was truly one of his best friends that he depended on and cherished.
