Joan was born in Asheville, NC to the late William and Adelaide Casselberry, and grew up on Bent Creek Ranch. She attended Lee Edwards High School.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her sister Ellen Casselberry.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Marvin McCracken; children Chris McCracken of Hill City, SD, Jeff McCracken (Jolie) of Haw River, NC, Kevin McCracken (Beth) of Clemson, SC, Kelly McCracken of Raleigh, NC; 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Joan had an outstanding life as a wife and mother. She was employed by G.M.A.C, Wake County School System, and retired from the NC Department of Commerce.
Due to COVID-19, a memorial service will be held at her church, First United Methodist of Cary at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joan’s honor to First United Methodist Church of Cary.
