John Raoul Maynard, A Christian husband and father, was born in Cary NC on October 21, 1935. He grew up on Chatham Street with his parents John Thomas Maynard and Grace Holleman Maynard. He broke his hip jumping out of a swing at 10 years old and was confined to a wheelchair for some time during the healing process. With the assistance of a tutor, he kept up with his schoolwork and graduated on time from Cary Senior High School in May of 1953.He continued his education with a brief stint at UNC and ultimately received his associate's in arts degree from Campbell University in December of 1956.
While attending Campbell, he met Clementine Turner, who he married and was a faithful husband with for 68 years until her passing in April of 2025. During their courtship, John was employed as a Disc Jockey for a small radio station where he would "dedicate" songs to her on air. John and Clementine had two children, John Jeffrey and Allison Renee.
John held numerous positions within the NC Department of Transportation culminating as the Director of Purchasing for the entire state for the division. He was a heralded and award-winning employee and retired from his position at 55 years of age. Coupled with Clementine's retirement from Bell South, they set out to do some traveling. They went to Hawaii and later took a month-long bus tour of the Western United States and Canada.
His Faith was deep and strong, and his guidance allowed his children to grow up "in the church". For many years he attended First Baptist Church in Cary and transferred his membership later in life to Westwood Baptist Church where he had many friends. After Covid and failing eyesight prevented him from attending, rest assured his faith stayed strong until the end.
John is survived by his children, John Jeffrey Maynard (Betsy Lynne) and Allison Bain (Hal) and 5 grandchildren Michael Ryan Ramos (Alexandra) , John Forrest Maynard, Rachel Anne Brown (Andrew), Kyle Martin Bain (Hannah) and Anna Grace Noble (Chase)
John passed away on April 14th in the early morning hours very peacefully under Hospice supervision at Rex Hospital. Our family will miss him dearly. Until we meet again, rest in peace.
