John was born on April 25, 1957, to Mary and Michael Moore in the Bronx, NY. After graduating from New Hyde Park Memorial High School in 1975 and studying HVAC, he married his one and only love, Susan, in 1978, beginning a lifelong partnership built on unwavering love, loyalty, and mutual support.
Together, John and Susan raised four children—Brian, Colleen, Kevin, and John Jr.—and in 1995 relocated their family to North Carolina. John was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. He had an unmatched sense of humor, a quick wit, and magical hands that could fix anything. To his children, he was the one you went to when something was broken, when you needed advice, or when you just needed to laugh. He led by example, showing them what it meant to work hard, stay humble, stay committed to the one you love, and always show up for your family.
John spent 43 years in the commercial HVAC industry, finishing his successful career with Brady Services in 2018. He genuinely loved his work. He took pride in mentoring new technicians, tackling the toughest chiller repairs, and making his regular visits to the parts store, where he was known for cracking jokes and somehow always finding another flashlight, he “needed.”
John dedicated his life to his family, which he considered his greatest accomplishment, although they often drove him crazy. When he was not working, you could find him happily wandering the tool aisles at Sears or Home Depot, reorganizing his meticulously kept tools or the refrigerator, attending his children’s events, or playing spider solitaire. In all the ordinary moments, he showed his family what dedication, reliability, and enduring love looked like.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan; his children: Brian (Katie), Colleen (Lee), Kevin, and John Jr.; and his cherished grandchildren: Declan, Delaney, Sierra, and Lee. He is also survived by his brothers: Kevin Ryan and Stephen Ryan, sister Mary Moore (Patrick); nephew and nieces John Ryan (Katie), Marie Wells (Chris), and Danielle; and ten great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Fran Ryan, and his brothers: Gerard Ryan, Michael Moore, Patrick Moore, and Tommy Moore.
