Lewis was born in Evanston, IL on February 4th, 1958 to parents Lewis Everett Medlin, Jr. and Jean Pearl (Mason) Medlin. In 1960, the family moved to Oxen Hill, MD, then finally settled in Woodbridge, Virginia in 1964. He attended Rippon Elementary and Junior High school and graduated from Gar-Field Sr. High School in 1976. He married his former wife Beth Gallagher in 1981 at the age of 22, and together they became parents to their daughter, Elizabeth. Although the marriage ended in divorce, they stayed friends and raised Elizabeth together. He felt that being a dad was his best accomplishment in life.
Lewis worked in the construction business around the Northern Virginia area until he retired in 2018. He then moved to Zebulon, NC to be near his daughter Elizabeth Medlin Oates, her husband Noah and their two sons, Charlie (15) and Calvin (6).He loved being a granddad to them.
To his family and his early childhood friends, he went by his middle name of “Scott”, but to his many later friends and their kids, he was fondly known as “Lewis” or “Uncle Lew”. He was a loyal, lifetime friend and those he knew back in Virginia – and their kids - were never far from his mind. The love that they and their kids gave him meant everything to him no matter where he was living.
In addition to his daughter Elizabeth and her husband Noah, and grandsons Charlie and Calvin, Scott is survived by his mother, Jean Medlin of Raleigh, NC, and his two sisters, Missy Medlin and Sandy Medlin, also of Raleigh.
Scott was a bold, funny, entertaining light in all of our lives, and he will be missed by all of us. His ashes are interred at Wake Memorial Park in Cary, NC, near the grave of his loving father Lewis Everett Medlin, Jr. who died in July 2016.
The family is grateful to the skilled nursing team of Heartland Hospice who helped us so much during this three-year journey and into the final months with his family.
