Born November 27, 1958 in Bloomington, IL to Gene LaMoine Hindenburg and Rita Ann Hindenburg, Max Frederick Hindenburg was one of nine children.
Ever the creative genius and curious mind, Max Frederick Hindenburg attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN to pursue a degree in Biomedical Engineering, an achievement that led to a remarkable, life-long career with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office in Alexandria, VA. In 1990, he married Lora Ann Altman and together they had three children: Amanda Larkin, Joshua Altman, and Megan Michal Hindenburg. In their own words, “Dad made our childhood magical. Whether it was playing hide-and-seek at home, catching frogs at Heron Pond, stopping by the “Little Store” for donuts after church then letting us drive home on his lap, cheering us on at every single sporting event, or simply helping us with our homework. He did it all.
He gave us the world and then showed us how to raise our own children so we could give them the world. If there is one thing we can say about dad, it’s that his love and dedication for us never wavered, not even once.” Following his retirement from the U.S. Patent & Trademark office, Max filled his time with walks through nature, developing innovative ideas for decorative patents, practicing the meditative art of Tai Chi, visiting with his children and grandchildren, and in recent years, rediscovering his love of writing. In July 2024, he published his first book The Holy Crystals of Jesus Christ and even began research for a second novel (a project that his children intend to finish on his behalf).
Max Frederick Hindenburg died on October 30, 2024 at his home in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is preceded in death by his parents Gene and Rita Hindenburg; his brother Bradley Hindenburg; and his sister Bernice Linden. He is survived by his children Amanda, Josh, and Megan Hindenburg; his grandchildren Denali, Grayson, and Holland Hindenburg with a third granddaughter on the way; and his siblings Gregory Hindenburg, Kurt Hindenburg, Beth Bohnert, Diane McKillop, Julie Dearing, and Janet Hindenburg.
