He was born the youngest of 7 in Columbus, Indiana, July 20, 1931 to the late John Henry and Christena Jackson King.
Omer joined the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida where he worked on guided missile systems. The first in his family to graduate college (Purdue University), he joined IBM as an engineer where he worked for 28 years transferring from Endicott, NY to RTP. Omer was an avid private pilot who took his family across the US, Canada and the Bahamas. He was also a ”tinkerer” of all things mechanical and electrical. Omer enjoyed reading, golfing and water sports. He dearly loved his family including Nicole Haub, a foreign exchange student from Germany, and his beloved cats, Riley and Dillon.
He will be missed by all his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara King; daughters, Karen (Bill) Quaintance and Lisa (Everette) Allen, both of Apex; grandsons, Marc, Russell, and Vincent Quaintance and Justin Allen, and granddaughter, Caitlin Allen, all of Apex; brother, Robert (Pauline) King of Dayton, Ohio; sister-in-law, Lola King-Isley of Columbus, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, John King Jr., Elmer (Betty) King and Melvin King; sisters, Thelma (George) Redmon and Vivian (Meredith “Nick”) Nichter.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary. The family will receive relatives and friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart or Alzheimer’s Associations or SPCA of Wake County.
