

Dr. Peter William Farin, died suddenly on August 30, 2011. Peter was a professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University. Peter was involved in reproductive research as well as clinical service and veterinary student training. He was internationally recognized as an expert in the field of theriogenology. A primary focus of his research was the effects of in vitro embryo production on subsequent fetal development. Peter served as president of the International Embryo Transfer Society and was an active member of the board of IETS. As president, he was dedicated to supporting young scientists in the field. He held a PhD in population health and was board certified in theriogenology, and was also active in the American College of Theriogenology. Peter and his wife, Dr. Charlotte Farin were internationally recognized for their published work in the area of bovine embryo technologies.
Peter was born and grew up in Yonkers, New York and attended St. Eugene’s Elementary School, was graduated from Wilbraham Monson Academy Massachusetts. He attended Alfred State College in New York, where he received is Associate Degree in agriculture. He received his Bachelor’s degree, Master of Science degree, and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University. He completed his residency at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri in Colombia, Missouri.
Peter is survived by his wife of twenty-nine years, Dr. Charlotte E. Farin and his daughters, Alicia Marie and Elizabeth Charlotte. Also surviving is his father, Alphonse Farin of Cary, his brother, Fr. Paul Farin of Dania Beach, Florida and sister, Aileen Oberlander of Venice Florida.
The family will receive friends at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Rd., Cary on Friday September 2nd from 6 to 9 pm.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Apex 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 3rd.
