It is with great sadness and love that the family of Ralph Randle Willard announces his death at 81 years of age, on December 9, 2024, in Cary, NC. A true force of nature, Ralph was born in Fort Scott, Kansas on July 9, 1943. He led a life marked by professional achievement and personal devotion. His accomplishments were numerous and varied. Ralph was a revered figure in the business world, best known as a Founding Partner of Bain and Co., where his visionary leadership and commitment to excellence set a high standard in the consulting industry. A passionate intellectual, his educational journey through Fort Scott High School, Stanford University and Harvard Business School laid a solid foundation for his illustrious career. His professional achievements were paralleled by his personal interests; Ralph was an avid traveler, a connoisseur of fine wines, a rabid Boston Red Sox fan and a passionate collector of Greek antiquities. His love for ancient history was reflected in his extensive antiquities collection that was admired by many.
Head of a large and extended family, Ralph was a devoted husband, dedicated father and a guiding light and mentor to many. Ralph is survived by his beloved wife, Gizelda, with whom he shared a strong marriage, friendship and partnership; and their children, Justin (Lori), Blair, Sarah (Vincent), Rebecca (Ben), Lincoln and Olivia; five cherished grandchildren, Sawyer, Sullivan, Crosby, Keegan and Lily. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Willard and his sister, Leighann Hackney; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph McMorris Willard and Jean Olive Willard.
His legacy of integrity, kindness and generosity will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him. Ralph's presence will be profoundly missed but his impact and spirit will continue to be felt by all.
The family thanks the many staff members at Brookdale of Cary, who took such great and loving care of Ralph over the last ten months.
