Robert Sterling Bell III

Robert Sterling Bell, III, "Bob" passed away peacefully on June 8, 2017 at the age of 76 years old in Cary, NC. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 25, 1940, Bob was raised by his parents, Robert Sterling Bell, II and Margery Weitman Bell of Pittsburgh, PA.

Bob graduated from Mount Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh, PA and Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL with a degree in hotel and restaurant management. Shortly after graduation, he moved to the Raleigh area and opened Mr. Ribs, a well-known and successful restaurant located near the NC State campus on Hillsborough Street. He later opened a second Mr. Ribs restaurant in Rocky Mount, NC, which is still open today and owned by his life-long friend, Richard Ross of Rocky Mount, NC.

Bob was a lover of golf, gardening, politics, good times, and great food. He loved his family and cherished his many friends over the years. He was a founding member of McGregor Downs Country Club in Cary and assisted in the building and establishment of Cary Christian Church.

Bob is survived by his spouse, Peggy Capps Bell of Cary, NC, daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" Bell (David M.) LaMontagne of Potomac Falls , VA, sons, Robert "Bobby" Sterling (Suzanne H.) Bell, IV of Mebane, NC and William S. "Scotty" (Tonya Wheeley) Bell of Roxboro, NC, five grandchildren, Quinn and Noah LaMontagne of Potomac Falls, VA, William Bell of Roxboro, NC, and Robert and Ruby Bell of Mebane, NC. He is also survived by his sister, Harriet "Bunny" Mitchell, and brother in-law, Clyde "Pineapple" Mitchell, of Raleigh, NC.

The family would like to thank those exceptional staff members at Sunrise of Cary and Amedisys Hospice who provided such wonderful care and compassion to Bob in his final days.

A Service of Remembrance for Bob will be held on Sunday, June 11 at 2:30 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Homes of Cary, located at 200 Southeast Maynard Rd in Cary, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests funds be donated to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA) by going to https://www.lbda.org/donate.
