
Robert (Bob) Myron Welch, age 81, of Garner, NC, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, at ''Transitions" (hospice) in Cary, NC. Bob was born on July 22, 1943 in Flint, Ml, to the late Francis (Bill) and Delphine (Della) Welch.
Bob graduated in 1961 from Birch Run High School and then attended Adrian College. He was employed at General Motors Steering Gear in Saginaw, Ml, before graduating from Michigan State Police Academy and joining the Frankenmuth Police Department. He was stationed out of Bridgeport State Police Post, and eventually became captain for the MTA (city bus line) in Flint. After more than 40 years in Michigan, Bob moved to Virginia where he worked in the Maximum Security Prison in Craigsville and then served as an officer of the Federal District Court of
Southwest Virginia before establishing his own security business. In 2005, Bob moved from VA to NC to be with his daughter. He met his wife, Marion, through Shepherd's Church (formerly Colonial Baptist) in Cary, NC. Together they settled down in Cary for nine years before moving to Garner, NC, where they spent nine years before moving to Raleigh
Two notable acts of public service took place while Bob served in the police department in Michigan. He received a life-saving award from the State of Michigan for saving the lives of a mother and her two children. Also, the City of Frankenmuth, Ml, awarded him a certificate of appreciation for (along with his partner) apprehending seven armed criminals in one encounter.
Bob is a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Garner, NC, where he served on the Men's Prayer Team and Risk Management Team.
Bob is survived by his wife, Marion Welch, of Raleigh, NC; two sons and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. Rob (Robin) Welch, Jr. and Rev. and Mrs. Travis (Miranda) Welch; and a daughter, Terry Breedlove, her husband Scott; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church in Garner, NC. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.
