Seth was born May 2, 1966, in Willimantic, Connecticut. After moving to Cary, North Carolina at the age of three with his brother Matthew and parents, Marcia and Tayler, Seth became a true Cary boy. He grew up roaming what were then the wilds of Cary, when Kildaire Farm Road still had a farm, and a favorite lunch involved a bike ride for hot dogs at Ashworth’s Drugstore.
Seth graduated from Cary High School in 1984 and joined the Army, where he served as an air defense artilleryman in West Germany. After the Army, Seth sought out adventurous work, teaching skiing at Snowshoe, working as an EMT, and serving on Ski Patrol. He later put his GI Bill to good use, graduating from North Carolina State University on his 30th birthday with a degree in International Business.
Seth enjoyed live music and bands, and many of his friends were involved in the music industry. During college, he worked as a bouncer and DJ at the lively Lake Boone Country Club. Seth was introduced to building and construction by his father while remodeling their Cary home. He went on to become a general contractor and made his mark in downtown Raleigh, helping to construct local establishments, including William & Company, The Office, Cork, and Slim’s Downtown Distillery.
Later, among many other projects, he built a home for his
parents before managing commercial construction jobs throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest.
Seth married his wife, JoEllen, in April of 1999 and together, they
shared and raised two wonderful sons, Turner Harrison (22) and Peyton Rogers (15). Seth was truly one of a kind. The and friends he made along the way belied his superficially gruff exterior, which
many came to find an endearing source of amusement. His early life had a profound influence on him, and he never tired of reminiscing about the adventures he shared with his brother Matthew, from fishing, digging for clams, and trapping crabs as boys, to later years filled with sports and travel.
Seth's mind, body and soul are finally at peace. In his final hours he was surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his parents Marcia and Tayler, his brother Matthew, sister in-law Amy and nephew Foard, his wife JoEllen and his wonderful boys, Turner and Peyton. For those who have graciously inquired about making a donation to honor Seth, we humbly request that these donations be made in Seth's memory directly to either of the wonderful organizations listed below.
