

Sidney Allen Knott, 81, of Cary passed away peacefully Monday January 25th at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Born January 27, 1934 in Vance County, NC he was one of seven children born to Jesse Dolphis and Amy Drake Knott. He grew up in Williamsboro Township, NC and graduated from Dabney High School in 1952. On December 27, 1953 he married Betty Farris of Henderson. After serving in the US Army in the Korean War, Sidney returned to Henderson and then moved his family to Cary in 1960. Sidney worked as a mechanic at Thompson Cadillac and then opened his own automotive repair business called Knott’s Auto Repair in Raleigh until he retired.
Whether you knew him as Sidney, Dad, Granddaddy, or G-dawg, it is certain he touched your life in some way! He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who cherished the simple things in life and the value of home and family. Sidney enjoyed tinkering with cars, antiquing, camping in the NC Mountains and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.
He is survived by his daughter, Sherrie D. Knott of Cary; son, Michael A. Knott, his wife, JoAnn and grandchildren Seth, Annika, Jonathan and Jacob of Clayton; and son Phillip D. Knott, his wife Pam and grandchildren Parker and Preston of Willow Spring. He was preceded in death by all his siblings; brothers Arthur Thomas, Roy Alton, Jesse Leonard, Joseph Richard and his sisters Emma Louise Blake and Elsie Leona Hawkins. His wife Betty Farris Knott, to whom he was married for fifty-six years, also preceded Sidney in death in 2010.
The family will receive family and friends Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 6 to 8 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511.
