Susan was a gentle, kind-hearted woman who never hesitated to speak her mind. She was full of light and her bold, spirited nature carried her throughout her life. Her honesty was known to be one of her strongest qualities which empowered her to always speak directly and from the heart. She will be remembered for the deep respect she showed for people, animals, and the world around her.
She spent her career with American Airlines, following in the footsteps of her father, and eventually retired from the company. She loved to travel and took every opportunity visiting different places around the world and embracing new experiences. She also spent much of her time visiting her loved ones and cherishing the time she had with each of them.
Susan is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, Ruth Marie Maag, Joseph Merton Greenough, and her sister, Amy Ruth Greenough whose memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.
She is survived by her two nieces, Susan Marie Russo and Patty Rene’ Russo, along with extended family and friends. She spent her later years at the Spring Arbor Retirement home in Cary, North Carolina and was in the steady care of a close friend who accompanied her often.
Throughout her life, Susan’s compassion extended to all creatures, both domestic and wild, supporting organizations like the ASPCA and the African Wildlife Foundation. In her final act of kindness, she ensured that her lifelong dedication to animal welfare would endure as her lasting legacy.
Susan will be deeply missed but remembered by many. With respect to her wishes, she will be cremated and her remains will be scattered alongside her late Mother and late Sister in New Mexico. A small memorial will be held at that location in the Spring of 2026.
