Teddy lived a life defined by devotion to family, service to his country, and a deep love of learning. Known by his Navy call sign “Ram,” he proudly served as a Naval Aviator, flying the A-6 Intruder, and retired at the rank of Lieutenant Commander after more than 21 years of honorable service. During his distinguished career, he earned numerous medals and commendations and formed lifelong bonds with his fellow service members.
Teddy, received his BS in Mathematics from Western Carolina and his MS in Operations Research from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA. Also, receiving his MS in Applied Mathematics from John Hopkins University.
After retiring from the military, Teddy devoted over three decades to education as a dedicated Math and Physics professor at Wake Technical Community College. He inspired countless students with his knowledge and quiet encouragement, a passion he shared with his oldest daughter, Traci. Ted was an avid reader and lifelong lover of music. He found great comfort in classical music, especially Beethoven and Mozart.
At home, Teddy found joy in life’s simplest pleasures. He loved his daily walks with his faithful dog, Rose, and shared a special bond with his cat, Zoei, who brought him comfort for many years — and with whom he is now reunited with. He also enjoyed cheering on NC State football games with his son, Ross, a tradition that brought them both great joy. Time with his grandchildren, especially Mira and Aiden, brought him his greatest happiness, from mountain trips and holidays to everyday moments spent together.
Teddy is survived by his loving wife, Arlene Jensen Maynard of Apex, NC; his son, Ross John Maynard and wife Nathalie of Tucson, AZ; his daughters, Traci Lynn Veenstra and husband Johan of Raleigh, NC, and Carly Alexis Moyano and husband Erick of Burnsville, NC; his sister, Pam Cooper and husband Brian of Buford, GA; and his grandchildren, Claire and Joshua “Josh” Veenstra, Mira and Aiden Moyano; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511, on Tuesday, August 5th, from 11:00-11:45 am. A memorial service will follow in the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home Chapel.
