Tommy was born on January 5, 1952 to Archie Franklin Norwood Sr. of Chatham County and Margaret Elizabeth Campbell Norwood of Chatham County. He was raised in Siler City, North Carolina. He was a loving father and grandfather. He graduated from Jordan-Matthews High School in 1970. He received his B.S degree in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University in Raleigh. He worked as a Project Engineer at Cisco Systems in RTP, NC. He was a longtime resident of Cary, North Carolina.
Tommy was a loving father who spent most of his time caring for her children, his family, and often his children's friends. He loved NC State, television, playing the guitar, ham radio, technology, and riding his motorcycle. Tommy was known for his sense of humor and his willingness to help anyone. He was a dependable guy, who chose to never judge or question why.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary “Phyllis” Williamson Norwood, his son John Franklin Norwood, and his niece Kamba Williams.
He is survived by his loving children, Emily Norwood McGill and Charles Lee McGill of Fuquay-Varina, NC and their children Tyler, Michael, Caroline, and EJ. Thomas Locke Norwood Jr. of Raleigh, NC. Marianne Starr Norwood Clark and Daniel Robert Clark of Fuquay-Varina, NC and their children Maggie and Parker. Sister Jennie Buckner and brother in law Ed Buckner, of Charlotte, and Brother Archie Norwood and wife Pat Norwood, of Greensboro, niece Gail Gandy, of Charlotte, sister-in-law Starr Williamson, nephew Ryan Norwood, of Greensboro, nephew William “Will” Holder, of Clayton and several cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday April 20, 2018 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday, April 19, 2018.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to United Cerebral Palsy, in the name of his son John Norwood, or to a child in your life in need.
