Bill was born in Atlanta, GA, son of Cyrus E. Hornsby, Jr. and Mary Morrison Hornsby. A graduate of the University of Tennessee Knoxville, resident of Raleigh since 1974. Owner of Hornsby and Sanders, Inc., a landscape contracting firm, 1970's-90. Active in establishment of Raleigh's off-leash dog parks, volunteer with Raleigh Red Wolf Ramble project. Devoted to his dogs, the natural world, and motorcycle touring on back roads.
Survived by wife of 44 years, Penelope (Penny) MacDonald Hornsby; siblings, Cyrus E. Hornsby III (wife Linda) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Lisa Tipton of Roswell, GA, Tracey Sterling of Santa Rosa, CA; and two nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 7, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Rd, Cary, NC 27511.
