

William E. Bond, Sr., 88, of Cary, NC passed away April 26, 2011. Born January 27, 1923 in Chicago, IL, he graduated from Fenger High School in Chicago, IL, Chicago Technical College with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering in 1954, and Illinois Institute of Technology (Electrical Engineering). Mr. Bond served honorably in the US Army during WWII from January 18, 1943 – August 18, 1946 and Korea from October 6, 1950 – February 11, 1952. Commendations during service included: EAME Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Battle Stars and Combat Infantry Badge. During Korea, he was awarded the Bronze Star for distinguished service under fire. He continued his service later in life in the Coast Guard Auxiliary as a Sailing Instructor. Mr. Bond retired from the University of Illinois - Chicago Campus as a Mechanical Engineer. His hobbies were sailing and golf.
He is survived by children, Leslie Bond Arnold of Pembroke Pines, FL, Susan Bond Arnold of Santa Ana, CA, Robin Bond of Niles, IL, and William E. Bond, Jr. of Cary, NC; grandchildren, Lorrain Arnold, Angelyn Arnold, Patsy Montgomery, and Michael Arnold; great-grandchildren, Shawn Stewart, Paige Montgomery, Logan Montgomery, Caity Montgomery, Gavin Arnold, and Trinity Arnold.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie A. Bond.
A military service will be held 1:00p.m. Friday, May 6, 2011 at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.
