

Ed graduated from Wilton High School in Granville County. He played basketball and baseball there. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Ed married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Janet Marie Preddy. They settled in Cary where they raised their family and enjoyed an amazing marriage of 65 years.
Ed's career was at North Carolina State University, where he worked in the Agriculture Department, specializing in swine research. He was a volunteer fireman in Cary for many years. He was a devoted Christian and faithful member of Ephesus Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, sang in the choir, and coached softball teams. Playing and coaching softball was Ed's passion, and watching college sports was his favorite past time, especially cheering on the Wolfpack.
He was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. Ed faithfully cared for his wife, Janet, as she suffered for many years from Parkinson's disease. She preceded him in death on January 12th, 2015.
He is survived by his daughters, Marie Myrick of Cary, and Barbara Glasgow and her husband, Jack, of Zebulon; sisters Wilma Preddy and her husband, Rancher, of Oxford, and Julia Kathryne and her husband, Larry, of Easley, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Christi Welch of Henderson; Liza Knight and her husband, Russell, of Greenville; and Jackson Glasgow and his wife, Lauren, of Wendell; and one great-grandson, Logan William Knight.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, June 24th, at Ephesus Baptist Church, 6767 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh, NC 27606. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Thursday, June 23rd, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Rd, Cary, NC 27511.
