

William was born on December 19th, 1942, in Goldsboro, NC, to the late Le Roy and Doris Sasser Edwards. Bill’s family moved to Cary from Sanford NC in 1952 where he lived until his death. He graduated from Cary High School and later served in the U.S. Air Force. In the 60s and 70s he owned and operated the Cary Esso Station in Cary. He later joined the NC Department of Agriculture where he worked until his retirement.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Edwards.
William is survived by daughter Donna Edwards Jones and husband Rob Jones of Knightdale; stepchildren Joanie Brooks and husband Gary Brooks of Raleigh, Sylvia Wilburn and husband Barry Wilburn of Zebulon, and James Allen Poole of Virginia; granddaughter Mackenzie Jones; and step-grandchildren Halie and David Brooks, and Danielle Wilburn. He is also survived by a brother, Glenn Edwards and wife Kathy Edwards of Sanford, as well as two nieces Madeline and Ellen.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 25th, at 11:00 a.m., at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. A graveside service will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 24th, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., also at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The ALS Association Jim "Catfish" Hunter Chapter.
