“Willie” was a master of many trades, from greens whipper at the golf course in his childhood, to neon sign and donut maker, to a master craftsman in many areas as an adult. He prided himself on his great work ethic which he practiced as a carpenter, bricklayer, electrician, plumber, deck builder, and auto mechanic. He possessed a green thumb the envy of all, and loved to ride his tractor mowing the fields of his farm where he raised horses. He was quick to buy a string of merry-go-round tickets for his grandchildren, or drive miles with them to find the source of a searchlight. He loved a bargain, whether it was a blue light special at K-Mart or a free senior coffee at Burger King.
Despite a loss of sight in his later years, Mr. Idec lived relatively independently, and was physically active and mentally fit, until only the last few weeks of his life.
He is survived by daughters, Maxine Eswein and Diane Chambers; grandchildren, Glenn, Eric and Dean Eswein, Robin, Daniel and Alex Chambers and Holly Idec; great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Jhonen, Erin and Camilla Eswein; sisters, Stephanie Larasso and Dorothy Halasnick.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha DeHanes Idec and son, Eric Idec.
