

William Vernon Montague, Sr., 80, of Cary, NC passed away on August 27. Bill was born to late Jack and Lydia Montague on May 28, 1937 in Baltimore, MD. Upon his graduation from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, he entered the United States Coast Guard and served as an Electrician's mate for four years. Bill then completed his degree in Civil Engineering from Univ. of Maryland in 1964. He worked at the Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Postal Service and the National Security Agency in his career and retired in 1992.
He married the love of his life, Janice Marilyn Moore, on October 31, 1959 in Baltimore, MD. Bill and Janice were parents to three children, Terry, Bill Jr. and Kevin. He was an active member in the local Presbyterian church where he served as a deacon for many years. He enjoyed boating, beaches, tennis, coaching his children's sports teams but most importantly spending time with his family on any occasion.
Bill is survived by his wife, Janice, and two sons, Bill Montague Jr. of Cary, NC and Kevin Montague of Wilmington NC with his wife, Stacy Walker and son-in-law Robert MacDougall of Cary NC. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Kimberly Knight of Fuquay-Varina NC, Christie Montague of Seattle, WA, William Montague of Cary NC, Benjamin MacDougall of Charlotte NC, Alissa, Jordan, Autumn and Joshua Montague all of Wilmington NC. Bill is also survived by one great grandson, Luke Knight.
A private funeral service was held for family members at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary, NC.
