Born on December 22, 1957, James—also known affectionately as “NDN” by many—was a man of many talents and passions. A gifted musician, he found joy in playing the piano and guitar, often filling quiet spaces with heartfelt melodies. He embraced life with a spirit of adventure—riding his motorcycle with the wind at his back, panning for gold in sunlit streams, crafting fine leatherwork by hand, and walking the land in search of ancient arrowheads. His hands told stories, and his heart was rooted in the earth.
James was truly a man of many talents and passions, and his greatest pride and joy was his family. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Tessie Dawn LaFavor, Tondi Marie Zweig, and Indio Obregon; his cherished grandchildren—ten in all—each of whom held a special place in his heart; and his siblings, Sara Massaro and Jonah Haynes. His love for them was boundless, and he remained a steady, guiding presence in their lives.
He now reunites in spirit with those who went before him: his beloved mother, Elsie Maye Massaro; his father, Jonas John Haynes; his sister, Debra Castro; and his precious granddaughter, Lilyana Marie Zweig. Their memories remained close to him always.
James will be remembered not only for his talents and adventurous soul but for his warmth, loyalty, and the deep love he gave so freely. He touched many lives and leaves behind a beautiful legacy of strength, creativity, and devotion.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and share in the stories and moments that made James so dearly loved.
