Betty Lou Wright, age 82, of Kiowa, Colorado passed away surrounded by loved ones on Friday, January 17, 2025. She was born October 26, 1942 in Copeville, Texas to Earnest Granville Davis Sr., and Mary Elizabeth Drayo Davis.
Betty came from a big family, being the second to last of eight children. In her younger years, her father worked as a farmer and carpenter causing them to move often. One of her fondest memories as a child was their home in Wylie, TX. They eventually settled long term in Garland, Texas where she graduated from Garland High School in 1961. In 1963 she was working downtown for the City of Dallas. An event she often recalled was the day she saw President John F. Kennedy's motorcade pass from the office window. In later years Betty attended Eastville Junior College in Dallas, TX.
Betty married Richard Wright and they enjoyed travelling, road trips and conducting Betty's genealogy research. She is credited for copied obituaries, Garland News 1900-1920; copied tombstone inscriptions in Garland; a Prof. & Assn. Member; Ashleys of America, Rockwall County Genealogical Society; Elbert County Historical Society; listed as Notable Women of Texas 1984-1985 and her book: Cemetery Inscriptions Garland Dallas County, Texas. In 1988, Betty and Richard relocated to Colorado where they ended up retiring.
Betty held several different jobs in her younger years. The one that was the biggest building block for her future in genealogy was working in the credit card department for "SSBA" Southwestern States Bankcard Association. Her largest passion was genealogy and her family, she acted as the family historian and used her skills to track down her missing classmates. Despite the hardships life gave her, she had a caring heart and a good sense of humor. She was an amazing story teller who cherished family above all. She loved spending time with her family. As a mother she worked hard to make sure her children felt loved and protected.
Betty is survived by her daughter Mary Wright; and her son Richard Wright and his wife Teresa; her grandson Sam Wright, her granddaughter Jade Wright, her grandson Leif Wright, and her granddogs Ted and Eli.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Richard Clayton Wright; her father Earnest Granville Davis Sr. and her mother Mary Elizabeth Drayo Davis; her brother Thurlan (Dude) Davis and his wife Helen; her brother Orville Ray (Bud) Davis and his wife Kathryn; her sister Mary Ernestine Davis; her brother Edwin Earl (Jeff) Davis and his wife Anne; her brother Earnest Granville Davis Jr. and his wife Joyce; her brother Donald Garvin Davis and her brother Robert Allan Davis.
Graveside service for Betty will be held Monday, January 27, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W Kenyon Ave, Denver, Colorado 80236. Please arrive by 9:45 AM and line up in Staging Area A, but remain in your cars. The cemetery representative will guide all guests to the pavilion at 10:00 AM.
