Our beloved wife, mom, and friend passed from this Earth on Friday, April 8, 2022 at the age of 85 at Porter Hospice in Centennial, CO. Mom was born in Detroit, MI on September 20, 1936. She was the daughter of Charles and Alice James of Farmington, MI. For the final two years of her life, she resided in Castle Rock, CO. She is survived by her husband Charles H. Rosmorduc and her two daughters Kristin M. Rosmorduc of Leesburg, VA and Maren M. Rosmorduc (Wes Shin) of Castle Rock, CO.
How do you encapsulate an entire person’s life who meant so much? Carol was an intelligent, friendly, lively wife, mom, friend, and teacher. She was proud of her Welsh and Norwegian ancestry. There is not a person who met her who would not consider her a friend. She could talk to anyone from anywhere as she was so approachable and non-judgmental. Mom was a tough, determined, capable, and 100% reliable person. She also had a mischievous sense of humor, a delightful way of looking at life, and an infectious laugh that could often brighten people up during their darkest moments.
Possessing a rare talent for languages, she spoke perfect French, learned to speak Italian, some Russian, and some German. Mom earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan in 1958 and she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority where she was fondly remembered for her organizational and event planning skills. She graduated a few months early so she could take a job as a guide at the Brussels World’s Fair. She later became a language teacher and her students loved her easy, approachable teaching style.
Charles and Carol got acquainted as pen pals in high school (Mom in Farmington, MI and Dad in Le Mans, France). Mom teasingly said she “got dad for twenty-five cents”. They corresponded for six years before finally meeting in person when she arrived in Brussels. Four years later, they married in Michigan in July 1962 and made their home first in Farmington and then in Northville, MI.
One of mom’s favorite pastimes was studying astrology and metaphysics. She was a talented astrologer who produced detailed and accurate natal charts. She met with dozens of people over the years to provide meaningful insight and often a much needed friendly, non-judgmental ear.
Mom’s approach to life was one of adventure and curiosity about the world. She and Charles traveled extensively to almost every continent on Earth. She gathered friends from all over who remained so for all her life. Her love of travel and curiosity of new places and people were passed down to Kris and Maren.
Mom loved animals so we had a menagerie of beloved pets including cats, dogs, fish, and even a mouse and hermit crab. Dad said that she was able to start an immediate friendship with any dog while walking down the street. Her daughter Kris inherited her love of horses, so she added three to her own menagerie, one of which, her beloved Korri, is still with her after 23 years. She shared this love of all creatures with her entire family and like the people in our family, our pets always have forever homes. Many friends have noted that we have more photos of the pets than of people in our homes.
A memorial service is planned for Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson in Castle Rock, CO. Memorial contributions may be made to one of these organizations: Denver Dumb Friends League (www.ddfl.org), Loudoun Equine Rescue (https://www.equinerescueleague.org/), or Porter Hospice (https://www.centura.org/location/porter-adventist-hospital/hospice-care).
There are no words to adequately describe the loss of our wife, best friend and mom. Because of her unending support and encouragement, she pushed us to follow our dreams, gave us confidence in our independence even when we did not believe we had it and provided a safe place to land if things did not go as planned. She was truly the wind beneath our wings, and she taught us to fly. Mom, we love you with all our hearts and you will be missed.
