

Carol Ann Hutchinson Stokes, age 69, of Monument, Colorado passed away peacefully on July 28, 2016, after a two year battle against pancreatic cancer. She was born at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Denver, Colorado. She grew up in Fort Collins, Colorado where her father established a business after his discharge from the Army Air Corps at the end of World War II.
Carol graduated from Fort Collins High School in the Class of 1964. She majored in Home Economics Education at Colorado State University and graduated in June 1968. She taught Home Economics at Billy Mitchell High School for 14 years and at Emerson Junior High School for 4 years—both in Colorado Springs, Colorado. While teaching, she earned her Master Degree in Education at CSU, and a second Master Degree in Computer Science Education.
Carol took a leave of absence from teaching in 1986 and attained her Colorado Real Estate Broker’s License. She met and married Dale Horan while working as a realtor and moved with Dale to Costa Mesa, California. While in California, she worked as a Project Coordinator for Computer Science courses at the University of California, Irvine. Dale died of a heart attack on September, 1, 1999. After Dale’s death Carol moved to Colorado and accepted a position as Academic Director of Computer Information Systems at the University of Denver.
Carol left her position at DU to marry Lowell Stokes February 21, 2001 and they made their home in North Ogden, Utah. Carol joined the LDS Church June 1, 2002. Lowell passed away on April 2, 2012.
Carol moved to Monument, Colorado in August 2014 to live with her twin sister, Carmen and Carmen’s husband, Bill, so they could help her with her battle against pancreatic cancer.
Carol was a member of the LDS church in Monument, the Romance Writers of America and the Utah Writers Group. She was passionate about meeting and talking with people, enjoyed traveling— including cruises, and at the time of her death was still planning and hoping for a cruise to Alaska.
She is survived by her sister, Carmen Crowley, and her brother-in-law, Bill Crowley and their family,
and her brother, Douglas Hutchinson and sister-in-law, Cathy Hutchinson and their family, and
Dale Horan's family and Lowell Stokes' family.
Carol requested that any donations in her honor be given to the LDS church's Perpetual Education Fund.
