Darlene Marie Sandrick, 74, of Castle Rock, Colorado, passed away on January 15, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on July 25, 1950, in Buffalo, New York, to William John and Edith Helen (Webster) Breitweiser.
Darlene graduated from Arcade Central School in New York in 1968, where she was a cheerleader and made lifelong friends. She later moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she worked for Encyclopedia Britannica, before relocating to El Cajon, California, where she worked for Buck Knives. Darlene’s journey eventually led her to Greeley, Colorado, where she worked for Campus Ministry at the University of Northern Colorado, and later settled in Castle Rock with her daughter, Amy, and her family.
Darlene always had a positive attitude in life and never let her journey with cancer get her down. Darlene was an avid supporter of her church and regularly attended and contributed to weekly Bible study. She was well loved by her fellow Christians and they will dearly miss her. Her love for the Lord, her family, and life in general was evident in everything she did. She never met a stranger, always ready to share her wisdom, love, and joy with others. In her spare time, Darlene enjoyed playing board games, solving jigsaw puzzles, cooking, gardening, and camping outdoors—activities that brought family and friends together.
Darlene is survived by her daughter Amy Higginbotham and husband Tim; grandsons Landon and Evan Higginbotham; brother Jim Breitweiser and wife Linda; sister Laura Pack and husband Clifford; and many loving nieces and nephews. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Otto and Bob.
A celebration of Darlene’s life will be held at Front Range Church, Castle Rock, Colorado on April 5, 2025 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to The American Cancer Society.
Darlene’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
