Donald Charles Allen
May 31, 1936 – January 10, 2026
Donald Charles Allen, a devoted husband, loving father, faithful servant of God, and treasured friend, passed peacefully on January 10, 2026, at the age of 89. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on May 31, 1936, Donald lived a life marked by integrity, perseverance, adventure, and quiet strength. A longtime resident of Fremont, California, but recently relocated to Castle Pines, Colorado, he leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and service that will continue to bless generations.
Donald’s early life was shaped by resilience. After losing his father at a young age, he and his family relocated to Washington, D.C., following World War II. He attended Northwestern High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Maryland, followed by a Master of Business Administration from the University of Santa Clara. During his university years, Donald was an active member of the Baptist Student Union — a place that not only nurtured his faith but also changed his life forever.
It was there that Donald met the love of his life, Shirley Elizabeth Edwards. The two were married on July 28, 1962, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in faith, devotion, and unwavering support. Together, they built a beautiful home and raised three children: Melany, Stephen, and Douglas. Donald embraced fatherhood as a calling from God, leading by example with humility, compassion, discipline, and steadfast love.
Donald’s professional career was equally distinguished. As a gifted engineer, he worked for General Dynamics in San Diego, General Electric in Sunnyvale, and ultimately Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, where he spent many years contributing to important technological advancements before retiring in the early 2000s. Known for his strong work ethic and sharp intellect, Donald approached every task with excellence and quiet dedication.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Donald was a man of deep joy and wide-ranging interests. He loved sports and was an enthusiastic participant in senior softball leagues well into his later years — a testament to his vitality and competitive spirit. He volunteered at world-class golf tournaments including Pebble Beach and the Women’s Pro-Am at the Broadmoor, combining his love of service with his passion for the game. Golf remained one of his greatest pleasures, as did theater, travel, and meaningful fellowship with family and friends.
Faith was the foundation of Donald’s life. He was actively involved in church communities wherever he lived and faithfully participated in a Men’s Bible Study at Bridges Community Church in Fremont. Donald embodied what Scripture describes as a godly father — one who provides spiritual leadership, intercedes for his family, models integrity, and reflects the compassionate heart of God. Like Joshua, Donald could declare through his life, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” His children and grandchildren witnessed not only his words of faith, but his lived example of humility, perseverance, and love.
Donald understood that fatherhood is not merely a role, but a divine mandate — a sacred trust from God to shape lives, preserve generational destiny, and bless future generations. He carried this mantle faithfully. He was gentle yet strong, disciplined yet tender-hearted, wise yet approachable. He believed deeply in speaking encouragement, building confidence, and offering grace. His presence brought peace. His counsel brought clarity. His love brought healing.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife of more than six decades, Shirley Allen; his son Stephen Allen and daughter-in-law Jill Allen; daughter-in-law Jannelle Allen; and his cherished granddaughters, Elisabeth, Dahlia, Jade, and Ruby Allen, who were the delight of his later years. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Songer, along with many extended family members and dear friends who were blessed by his life.
He was preceded in death by his precious daughter Melany Elizabeth Allen, his son Douglas Charles Allen, his father Waldo Coolidge Allen, his mother Frances Lenz Allen Songer, and his brother Waldo Coolidge Allen Jr. Though their absence marked his heart, Donald walked forward in faith, trusting in the promises of God and the hope of eternal reunion.
Donald’s life stands as a living testimony to the truth that fathers are carriers of generational blessing. His faith has become a legacy. His character has become an inheritance. His love continues to echo through his children and grandchildren. As Scripture teaches, “The righteous man walks in integrity; his children are blessed after him.” Donald Allen lived that truth fully.
In a world experiencing a crisis of fatherhood, Donald stood as a quiet yet powerful counterexample — a man who returned daily to his God-given assignment with devotion, purpose, and grace. He reflected the compassionate heart of God, provided emotional security, corrected in love, pursued reconciliation, and remained steadfast through every season of life. Like the father of the prodigal son, his heart was always open, ready to restore, embrace, and bless.
Donald Charles Allen’s name will be remembered with joy and honor. His story will continue to be told — not only in words, but in lives shaped by his influence. His legacy will endure through faith passed down, love multiplied, and character modeled. Though he has entered eternal rest, his impact remains deeply alive in all who knew him.
Closing Blessing and Tribute
Fatherhood is a divine institution, and Donald Allen fulfilled it with grace and faithfulness. He lived as a provider, protector, leader, mentor, and spiritual covering to his family. Through his life, homes were strengthened, hearts were healed, and generations were secured. His was a life well-lived — not for applause, but for God’s glory.
May the Lord grant comfort to all who mourn his passing. May his legacy of righteousness continue to flow through his children and grandchildren. And may we honor his memory by walking in the same love, faith, and devotion that defined his life.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
