Dorothy Rita Grahn

Dorothy was born September 19, 1927 in New York City to John C. Hollman and Helen Marie Gee, and was the second of five children. She married John Wesley Grahn on August 20, 1949 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in New York City.

Dorothy graduated from the Central School for Practical Nurses in New York City on August 31, 1950 and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She spent her early married life in New York City until making a home in Alexandria, Virginia, where she and John raised four children until 1970, when they moved to Aurora, Colorado where they spent the remainder of their lives.

She and John were happily married for 43 years. Dorothy returned to work as a Dental Assistant to an Oral Surgeon after the children were grown. They were avid bowlers, enjoyed playing cards, taking trips to Hawaii and Las Vegas, and visiting family, their grown children and grandchildren.

Known by her friends as Dot or Dottie, she enjoyed her membership in TOPS Aurora, achieved the status of KOPS Queen, and was awarded a trip to Canada. She was very close to her sisters and brother, enjoyed her hobbies of crocheting and sewing, and blessed so many with her beautiful afghans, baby blankets, and sewing projects. She also spent years decorating cakes for Boy Scout Troops, family, friends, and organizations for special occasions, where her artistry shined.

Dorothy was a loyal and faithful member of the Lutheran Church throughout her life and a long-time member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Aurora. She served in many ways, donating her talents and time to the church and its charitable endeavors.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband John, father John, mother Helen, sisters Helen Carr and Mary Hollman, brother John Hollman and brother -in-law Thomas Carr. She is survived by her children Allison (Floyd), Renee, Keith, Jeanine (Chris), sister Joan Jones and brother-in-law John Jones, sister-in-law Phyllis Hollman and several nieces, nephews, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She will be laid to rest with John in Ft. Logan National Cemetery. Visiting and graveside services will be held on April 28, 2021. She will remain in our hearts forever and will be missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
