On March 12, 1922 a little girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. W. B. West, farmers in Yoder, Colorado. They named her Eleanor Dorothy. She was the eldest of ten children and attended the Stem Full Gospel Church in Alta Vista. Eleanor gave her heart to Jesus when she was 10 years old and was filled with the baptism in the Holy Spirit a few years later.
After high school, Eleanor attended Blair’s Business College in Colorado Springs and that is where she met a young man named Daniel Paul Perry at a church Halloween party. He took a liking to this “spook” and had his friend to ask her and her girlfriend to a Thanksgiving Banquet on a double date as he was too bashful to ask her. Eleanor did not know which boy she would be going with, but secretly hoped it would be Paul – and sure enough it was! Their marriage in 1943 was the beginning of a 40-year romance.
Between 1947 and 1955, D. Paul and Eleanor had 3 little girls join their family, Rhoda Ruth, Lois Lavon and Eunice Arlene. Eleanor worked right alongside her husband in the churches they pastured, and loved the families they served. She sat in the front row of every service, taking notes in shorthand of every sermon. In her later years she was a member of Castlewood Canyon Church and once again assisted in various areas of the church and prayed daily for her pastor.
Eleanor had an unwavering faith in God. After Sunday afternoon naps, she could often be heard through the bedroom door praying and asking for the Lord’s presence to be in the evening service. He never disappointed her.
Eleanor is survived by her three daughters and spouses; Richard & Rhoda Field, Castle Rock, CO, Ed & Lois Soules, Tulia, TX, and Kevin & Eunice Tyler, Columbus, GA; 8 loving grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Naomi Eastman and Chuck & Esther Pittock; 2 brothers, Delbert & Gay West, Paul & Vanita West. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jane West and Irene Kunau and three brothers, Leland West, Dale West and Keith West.
Although Rhoda is not able to be with us today, she joins her sisters, Lois and Eunice, in expressing their deep appreciation for your kind and thoughtful expressions of sympathy.
