

Jim was born in Lansing, Michigan on June 20, 1952. He grew up in Canon City, Colorado, where he graduated from Canon City High School in 1971. He joined the Air Force on May 13, 1971, serving through Vietnam and Desert Storm. He achieved the rank of Master Sgt. E7; Supervisor of the Radiology Dept. at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Mississippi. He retired from the Air Force on March 6,1992.
From 1992 until 2011, Jim worked for Eastman Kodak Company/Carestream Health, serving in various capacities in the Medical Imaging Division. He was selected to conduct training and assist in setting up Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories in hospitals in India. He was also selected to the team responsible for Medical Imaging Software utilized during the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Valeda June Powers and grandmother, Lucille Howell. Jim is survived by his wife, Sharon Harris-Powers of Castle Rock, CO., daughters: Stayce (Jason) Blume of Troutdale, Oregon, Heather Powers of Gresham, Oregon and Dawn Powers also of Gresham, Oregon. Granddaughter: Samantha Blume of Troutdale, Oregon, stepchildren, Ronald Smith and Bobbi Jo Smith both of St. Louis, Missouri. Also, brother, Roy Powers of Alamogordo, NM; sisters: Leah Mondy of Niles, MI., and Ranell Powers of Castle Rock, CO., nephews: Adam Mondy of South Bend, IN., Aaron (Krystal) Mondy of South Bend, IN. niece: Amanda Mondy of Boca Raton, Fl., and his best friend and mentor, Gerald Beckler of Boise, Idaho.
Jim enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, fly fishing, photography and attending concerts at Red Rocks Amphitheater, (which Jim's uncle helped build). He truly enjoyed living in the Rockies; particularly, visiting the Maroon Bells area. The changing colors of the Aspens were his favorite time of the year. Jim loved to laugh and never met a stranger. He enjoyed his friends and family, especially the time he got to spend with his granddaughter, Sammi.
Services will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Friday, April1, 2011 at 10:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory, for Vietnam Veterans.
