
John Melville Harmon, 90, of Castle Rock, CO died Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at his residence peacefully as he lived, surrounded by his family. He was a life-long resident of Homer City, Pennsylvania until January 2017 when he moved to Castle Rock, Colorado. He was the son of the late Daniel and Bessie (Campbell) Harmon.
He was a beloved husband father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and faithful friend. John graduated from Homer City High School, Bliss Electrical School in Washington, D.C., and attended engineering classes at Pitt University and took courses through ICS. He worked at FMC Corporation’s Homer City plant in the R&D Department and retired after 40 years of service. He was a member and, through the years, served in many capacities at the Homer City United Methodist church. He was a Life Member of the Homer City Fire Department. He was a world War II Veteran having served in the US Army, stationed in Germany during the occupation.
He is survived by his wife, Norma B. (Weber) Harmon, whom he married in 1953; daughter, Debra Lynne; two grandchildren, Salena (Ryan) Zavorka and Shaina (Michael) Stahl; five great grandchildren, James Jacob, Zophia Kaylynn, Asher John, Scarlett Grace and Rhett Joseph; sister, Erna Jean and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clair, Paul, Daniel and sisters, Thelma, Edna and infant sister, Leora.
Funeral arrangements and cremation were handled by Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson of Castle Rock, Colorado. Ashes are to be interred at a later date.
