Ken Rubin was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, retired career firefighter/paramedic and pillar in his church and community. On May 5, 2022, God welcomed him home following a significant medical emergency. He passed surrounded by his loving family.
Ken is survived by his wife, Jane Rubin; daughter and future son-in-law, Kiley Rubin and Sean McManus; and stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Brian and Ashley Strong. Additionally, he is survived by his four step-grandchildren; James and Jaylynn Wisner; and Paisley and Chesney Strong.
Ken was the master of being prepared and already had the details of his life carefully written. Here is his memoir, as told by him.

I'm Ken Rubin.
My wife and best friend is Jane. We went on a blind date 22 years ago after my daughter's swimming teacher assured me that we were perfect for each other. She was right and we have been inseparable ever since except of course for work, bathroom, etc.
I was born and raised in New York City. My mother was a single teen and I was adopted at birth by a very generous family. During my childhood my adopted family moved to Spain for a year to the Middle East for 2 years. My adopted dad being a medical doctor would volunteer his services in local clinics to help those less fortunate. During that time frame we would travel a lot and those experiences gave me an interesting world view of life away from the United States.
Some of you may know that I am a retired South Metro firefighter and medic having spent 38 years on the job fighting fires and and caring for the sick and injured. During my many years of working on the streets I was witness to many tragedies (including Columbine). So much pain and suffering. As well as many unexpected miracles. You see life differently when you work in emergency services. If you rode with me for just a shift it wouldn't be possible to walk away without thinking that maybe, just maybe someone watches over us.
Jane and I have a blended family of adult children, their spouses and grandchildren. I love spending timing with our grandchildren. I am currently loading them up on sugar and secretly showing them how to show their food. Please don't tell their parents.
Most mornings you can find me working out at the gym or walking at the MAC. I also love hiking. Something Jane and I try to do often. We travel a lot and love cruises. Our last cruise was to Alaska. Movies. Reading. You know... the retirement life.
