Mabel Joan Hickey

Mabel Joan (Preston) Hickey, age 91, fondly know as Joan or Joni, passed away on Friday, July 9, 2021 with her family by her side. She was born in Wichita, KS in 1930, was raised in Syracuse, Kansas and she graduated early from Golden High School. She worked as a timekeeper for Denver Public Schools, she was a realtor and she was a switchboard operator who retired from Mountain Bell/US West/Qwest/CenturyLink.

She married William Obrey in 1947 and together they had 4 wonderful daughters - Lenora, Janice, Diane and Leslie. After their parting, she found love again and married Charles “Gene” Hickey in 1974. They have been constant companions ever since and enjoyed skiing Vail and Winter Park together, bowling on leagues and attending the USBC Women’s Championships several times. They loved traveling, visited Niagara Falls, Lake Tahoe, Royal Gorge and had many other adventures together. She was an avid Broncos fan who held season tickets and she enjoyed many other hobbies.

She is preceded in death by her parents Helen and AW Preston, her first husband William and her daughter Janice. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband Charles, age 94, daughters Lenora, Diane and Leslie, her 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and their spouses.

She moved to Larkspur, CO in 2001 and enjoyed every day since living in her dream home until her passing. She will be greatly missed by those who were close to her.
