Margaret is survived by her daughter Christine (Casimer) Andary; brother Raymond Stoetzer, sister Elaine Pica; daughter-in-law Laurie Parkin; granddaughters Tracey (Cameron) Achee and Erin (Steven III) Manis; and great grandchildren Addison Achee, Steven (Ace) Manis IV and Barrett Manis. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Jack, sons Steven and Wayne, her parents, and siblings Carole, Shirley, and Ken.
Margaret and Jack met when they both worked for Sanders Confectionary in Highland Park, MI, and were married for 61 years. When their children started school, Margaret worked retail at Jacobsons in Birmingham, as a “lunch lady” at Mark Twain Elementary School, and then started a long career as an Optometric Assistant, working at a practice in downtown Royal Oak until she retired. In addition to supporting Jack and his Masonic & Shrine organizations, Margaret belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, Ladies Oriental Shrine, and was a lifetime member of Daughters of the Nile, where she twice held the position of “Queen”.
Family, church, and music were important to Margaret. She was a Cub Scout “Den Mother” and Girl Scout “Troop Leader." Additionally, she was a very adventurous soul starting to camp in 1967, traveling across country as a family when her children were young and she continued that sense of adventure the rest of her life. She also chaperoned at Church camp and Girl Scout camp and had tea parties under the dining table with her granddaughters. Margaret sang her entire life and hearing her sing was a true pleasure. Growing up she was in the Salem Lutheran Church choir and as an adult she sang in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church choir and in the Royal Oak Musical. Margaret also directed Junior choir and the handbell choir at Good Shepherd, as well as working with high school students in “Luther League” and leading Bible studies.
When memory failed, Margaret continued to greet everyone at her assisted living with a welcoming smile and a kind word. She continued to enjoy singing and one of her favorite tunes to sing was "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)" and with this she often had the other residents, their families, and staff singing along with her.
In memory of Margaret, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Shriners Hospitals for Children, or an organization of your choosing.
