Marty Kilpatrick, age 63, passed away peacefully and in his sleep on Monday, May 13th, 2024, in his home in Elizabeth, Colorado. He was a native of Colorado. He was born in Denver, on June 26, 1960. Marty was a loving husband, father, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, and great uncle.
Marty graduated from Westminster High School in 1978. A few years after graduating high school, he began working for Public Service Company of Colorado and never looked back. He proudly retired from PSCo, also known as Xcel Energy, as a Working Foreman of the Electric Utility Line Department in June of 2023. He was respected by both career long co-workers and newly hired apprentices.
Outside of work Marty was both a participant and, later in life, a judge, in the Annual Lineman's Rodeo. He enjoyed being a member of the Night Musick pyrotechnics team who launched 4th of July firework displays for Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, and Reunion, over many years. He enjoyed hunting, camping, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, and fishing. He also enjoyed the company of friends and family as evidenced by his holding an annual and always epic pig roast, the "Marty Party". Marty's life was made full with the birth of his daughter in 1995.
It seems that there is truly no rest for the weary. After retirement, Marty was tasked with being a caregiver to first, his wife, during treatments for stage III breast cancer, and second, to his 92-year-old mother-in-law, who came to live in their home in Elizabeth. There has never been a more supportive, attentive, or patient husband/son-in-law.
In a final act of loving kindness, just before passing away, Marty took his wife to Tahiti to allow her to experience her life-long dream of staying in a bungalow over the turquoise waters of the South Pacific. It was the vacation of a lifetime and a perfect ending to a happy, although, unfinished life.
Marty will be dearly missed by his forever love-Suzie Douglas, daughter-Miranda Kilpatrick, brother-Mark Kilpatrick (Teresa Clark), sister-Susan Kilpatrick-Taylor (Dorsey), stepfather-Norm Popiel, stepmother-Kathleen Kilpatrick, and by extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Kilpatrick, and mother, Mary Dessonville-Popiel.
A memorial will be held for Marty Kilpatrick on Saturday, July 6th, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. It will be held at Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson Chapel at 407 Jerry St, Castle Rock, CO 80104. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following the memorial at Marty's home in Elizabeth. Directions will be available at the chapel and upon request.
